Hausa-Igbo Face-Off Brews Tension In Apo, Abuja (Photos)

The face-off between some Hausa and Igbo traders in the Apo area of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja has heightened the tension among residents of the area as many shops, vehicles and other valuables were burnt and destroyed during the attacks which started on Monday, October 19.

Everyevery.ng correspondent, who visited the scene of the attack reported that many residents expressed fears over possible reprisal attacks on them as some stores and goods belonging to both Hausa and Igbo traders have been razed down.

Some residents who pleaded anonymity stated that the attack has resulted in the loss of lives while many others have been injured. Also, some of the residents in the area could not go to their places of work or carry out their business activities as many of them have taken cover to avoid attacks on them.

However, some men of the Nigerian Police Force were seen in about four patrol van in an attempt to restore peace and normalcy and to ensure that there is no further breakdown of law and order in the area.

You will recall that some armed hoodlums had on Monday attacked peaceful EndSARS protesters in Kabusa Junction, Apo, Abuja. Everyevery.ng learned that the attack happened simultaneously while the police were also dispersing the protesters with teargas and live ammunition.

Sources had earlier confirmed that armed policemen also fired live bullets and teargas to disperse peaceful protesters gathered at AYA Junction in Abuja, injuring many of them.
