Hakeem Odumosu, the Lagos State Police Commissioner, ordered police to fire teargas canisters at protesters in the #EndSARSMemorial Protest in Lagos because he asserts that “miscreants had taken over.”

The Police Commissioner said that he spoke with the youth leader at the Judicial Panel, ‘Tope’, who told him that the #EndSARSMemorial protest was over. He equally stated he talked to Femi Falana and said that the latter said the protest would now hold indoors.

He expressed surprise that the protesters were at the Lekki Toll after 10 am as he was aware that the protests would be held inside cars and be done by 10 am.

The Lagos State Police Commissioner stated, “This is not a protest venue. We have the Gani Fawehinmi Park for protests,” and also said, “We cannot ground the economy of Lagos because of a memorial. Today is a working day.”

He declares not to repeat events that occurred in October 2020 and beyond as miscreants hijacked the protests and public properties were destroyed.

Some protesters’ cars have been seized, and that some journalists and protesters have been arrested and beaten.
