As Nigerians continue to express concerns over the insecurity in some parts of the country, unknown gunmen have reportedly killed AIG Christopher Dega, the Senior Special Assistant to Benue Governor Samuel Ortom on Security.
The Nation Newspaper reported that Dega was shot in the chest several times by gunmen in Jos, Plateau State Capital.
Before his death, AIG Dega, who hailed from Katsina-Ala local government area in Benue state, had a brilliant career in the Nigerian Police Force. He was twice Commissioner of Police in Borno and Edo States.
The killing of Christopher Dega is coming barely 24 hours after President Muhammadu Buhari warned those behind attacks in some parts of the country. Buhari had stated that he receives daily security reports on the attacks on critical national infrastructure.
According to him, those behind the attacks want his administration to fail. He warned that whoever wants the destruction of the system will soon have the shock of their lives.
Buhari said he received a briefing from the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on the series of attacks on their facilities nationwide. The president described the attacks as unacceptable.
He assured the electoral body that his administration would make everything available to end the speculations around a third term ambition.
