Cries and tension have erupted as gunmen attack unusual location in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, and abducted almost a dozen people.

Gunmen attack unusual location: An orphanage!

Some armed bandits kidnapped 11 people from Rachael Orphanage Home in Abaji Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Everyevery.ng gathered that the bandits abducted seven orphans and four workers.

The orphanage was reportedly invaded in the very early hours of the morning during the weekend.

The kidnapped orphans were Jacob Ukpas, Melody Ijeh, Bernard Itim, Isaac Matthew, Elizabeth Andrew, Dayo Udeh and Laruba Emmanuel.

Also kidnapped were three orphanage workers: Rukayyat Salihu, Suwaiba Momoh, Momoh Jimoh and the security guard, Joseph Matthew.

The gang carried out the ugly operation as the gunmen attack unusual location on the orphanage dormitory after forcing the gate open.

Sources in the area said the kidnapping was as a result of the withdrawal of the anti-kidnapping Joint Taskforce (JTF) last week. This was carried out by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) and the FCT Command of the Nigerian Police.

The JTF, which was funded through the security department of the FCTA, was put in place in October last year to ensure security in the Federal Capital.

The squad had done a good job with improving security and reduction in cases of kidnapping in the Kuje and Abaji areas as well as the deployment of security around Toto hills in Nasarawa State and the Chikara/Gegu axis in Kogi State against kidnapping.

Meanwhile, the FCT Police Command has said it has begun a manhunt for the kidnappers, adding that one of the orphans was rescued.

Police Public Relations Officer, Mariam Yusuf, said more police detectives were deployed to aid the rescuing.
