Gunmen Abduct over 40 People, Plus Wedding Guests

Gunmen operating around the Sokoto-Zamfara axis have reportedly taken over 40 persons hostage, including some wedding guests that plied the same route.

Speaking on the matter was Mr Muhammad Shehu, the Spokesperson of the Zamfara Police Command, who issued a press release yesterday, confirming that the incident actually happened.

He explained that the travellers, mostly comprising traders and those who attended a wedding and were already returning to their various destinations, were abducted from the Tambuwal Local Government Area, LGA, in the state.

Shehu further explained that an ambush was set along the roadside by the bandits and that the unsuspecting commuters fell straight into the trap returning to Zamfara around 6pm from when they were waylaid by the bandits who mounted a road block on the expressway.

He also revealed that “The gunmen shot sporadically at the vehicles they were travelling in and abducted about 40 people, while around 20 managed to escape”, Shehu said.

Meanwhile, the police spokesperson hinted that the command has already commenced investigation and are closer to unravelling the whereabouts of the abducted victims.
