A civil society group has urged CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele to immediately order the arrest of controversial Onitsha based prophet Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere also known as Odumeje.

Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) called the attention of Emefiele to how the prophet engages in serial abuses of the Nigerian Naira.

In a statement, the National Coordinator of HURIWA, Emmanuel Onwubiko and the National Media Affairs Director, Zainab Yusuf accused Odumeje of abusing the Naira notes.

The group noted that it had resolved to officially write to the Minister of Finance and President Muhammadu Buhari on the need to defend the Naira against global defacing.

HURIWA further expressed disappointment over how the self-acclaimed prophet Odumuje kept defacing the national currency.

The group also urged the CBN to activate the legal provisions that should have protected the naira notes from abuse.

HURIWA quoted Section 21(3) of CBN Act 2007 which forbids spraying of, dancing or matching on the Naira or any note issued by the Bank (CBN) during social occasions.
