Arsenal has reportedly rejected AS Roma’s 15m euros (£12.9m) bid for their Swiss playmaker Granit Xhaka. The Italian side’s bid fell short of Arsenal’s valuation of the 28-year-old. Granit Xhaka Arsenal in 2016 for a reported £35m and has a contract until 2023.
Jose Mouriho Wants Granit Xhaka at Roma
New Roma manager Jose Mourinho is keen to sign the to the Italian Serie A and the player is one of his major targets. AS Roma also interested in signing Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz as well. Xhaka has had a mixed career at the Emirates, revealing he and his family had received abuse on social media after clashing with fans as he was substituted against Crystal Palace in October 2019.
He was also abused after being sent off at Burnley last December. Granit Xhaka was stripped of the captaincy by former Arsenal boss Unai Emery because of all the issues he was having then. Regardless of all that, the player did well last season, he made a total of 47 appearances under Mikel Arteta who is the current manager of Arsenal.
Xhaka is currently on duty with Switzerland at the European Championship and played in their opening 1-1 draw with Wales.
