Given the level of insecurity in some parts of Nigeria, Nigerian Governors have unveiled plans to meet President Muhammadu Buhari and the Service chiefs.
In a letter sent to the Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, the governors revealed plans to discuss the worrisome and rapidly degenerating security situation with President Buhari.
You will recall that the convoy of the Borno state governor was attacked by suspected Boko Haram terrorists between Baga and Monguno in his state while on a trip.
In the letter, the Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF) and the Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi described the attack on Zulum’s convoy as one unwarranted attack too many.
He said the attack epitomises the collective vulnerability of Nigerians and the fragility of the country’s security architecture.
However, the governor threatened to mobilise hunters and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) to battle Boko Haram should the troops fail to perform after some time.
The governors revealed that its Sub-Committee on Security will hold a meeting after which they will dialogue with President Buhari and the nation’s security chiefs.
Prior to this recent development, there have been calls for rejig of the nation’s security architecture from many quarters.
