The Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum, has visited the Nigerian Army‘s Headquarters to commend the Military for the zeal and commitment towards ending terrorism in the Northeast.
According to Brigadier General Mohammed Yerima, the Director of Army Public Relations, Governor Zulum congratulated the COAS on his well-deserved appointment during his courtesy call on the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru.
Meanwhile, he appealed to the COAS to facilitate the return of Internally Displaced Persons to their ancestral homes to enable them to access to their various means of livelihood.
Governor Zulum, while expressing his strong support for the Army, noted an increase of 25% access to farmlands in the last farming season and requested sustained efforts to have an astronomical rise for the coming season.
He said the sustained efforts would help consolidate the peace already achieved and address the problem’s root causes.
Responding, the COAS, Attahiru, thanked the Governor for his support to the Nigerian Army, especially in logistics, which he said had enhanced Operation Lafiya Dole.
However, he assured the Governor of the Army’s determination under his leadership to defeat all adversaries and restore peace in the country.
Attahiru added that a team comprising principal staff officers at Army Headquarters and Corps Commanders were presently in Maiduguri to assess the troops’ needs with a view to addressing them.
He further appealed to the Governor to effect repairs on roads that linked significant Local Government Areas in the State to enable forces to carry out their operations with minimum hitches.
Other dignitaries present at the meeting include the past Governor of Borno State and serving Senator Kashim Shettima, Chairman Senate Committee on Army Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume and Senator Abubakar Kyari.
