The Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, slashed the salaries of civil servants in the State. Fayemi also announced the suspension of the minimum wage.
As part of the agreement reached during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the government and organised labour in Ado Ekiti, the State government also reduced the salaries of political appointees.
EveryEvery.ng gathered that the Ekiti State government suspended the minimum wage for workers on grade levels 07 to 12 for three months. Also, the salaries of political appointees are slashed by 25 per cent for three months.
Meanwhile, workers on grade levels 01 and 06 will not be affected as their N30,000 minimum wage still stands.
You will recall that the labour unions in Ekiti State had earlier threatened to shut down activities of the state government if Governor Fayemi failed to implement the N30,000 minimum wages.
The Head of Service, Mrs Peju Babafemi; the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Labour Matters, Oluyemi Esan, and the Permanent Secretary, Office of Establishment, Mr Bayo Opeyemi, represented the Ekiti State government at the meeting.
Meanwhile, Kolapo Olatunde, the Chairman of, Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC and Sola Adigun, his counterpart in the Trade Union Congress, signed the MOU on behalf of the labour centres.
