Governor Akeredolu Expresses Regret Over Political Violence In Ondo

The Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has expressed regret over the political violence in the state ahead of the forthcoming governorship elections in the state.

Akeredolu stated this while reacting to the attacks on the convoy of the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Eyitayo Jegede in Oba Akoko on Wednesday.

In a statement by his campaign organisation in Akure, Akeredolu condemned the clashes between supporters of the PDP and APC which resulted in burning and damage of campaign vehicles of both parties.

The statement which was issued by the spokesperson of the organisation, Olabode Richard Olatunde described the violence as unfortunate.

However, he asked the Ondo state police command to investigate, arrest and prosecute the political thugs behind the attacks to serve as a deterrent to those who may want to foment trouble before, during and after the Governorship election in the state.

Governor Akeredolu, who is also the governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress, APC in the forthcoming Ondo governorship poll said the lives of the people of the state are more important than his election.

Meanwhile, Akeredolu called on Jegede to talk to his supporters noting that his campaign organisation believes in peace and will not negotiate that on the altar of politics.

You will recall that the convoy of Governor Akeredolu and that of his rival, Eyitayo Jegede were attacked by political thugs who destroyed campaign vehicles and injured scores of party supporters.
