German Bundesliga Could Resume this Month
The German Bundesliga could be resuming this month; the Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel confirmed this. If this is archived, the German Bundesliga will be the first league in Europe to continue their league after they all went on suspension due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Following this development, it has been confirmed that all matches will be played behind closed doors. The German Bundesliga has just nine matches left to play with Bayern Munich topping the league table with four points above Borussia Dortmund.
Bayern chairman Karl Heinz Rummenigge said: “I would like to thank the politicians for giving Today’s decision [and for] the opportunity to finish the Bundesliga season. “We are now looking forward to resuming play, ideally from mid-May. This ensures that the sporting decisions are made on the pitch.
“I appeal to everyone involved to follow the requirements, which are the basis for resuming games, in an exemplary and extremely disciplined manner.” Christian Seifert, chief executive of the DFL, added: “Today’s decision is good news for the Bundesliga and the Bundesliga 2.
It has been confirmed that games will be played without spectators and all players will be tested before training and match as well. The DFL has however warned that many top-division teams would be in an “existence-threatening” financial position if the play did not resume by June, therefore, is only wish they return soonest.
