Over the week women all over the world have been posting monochrome pictures of themselves in support of Women and women empowerment. Nigerian celebrities were not left behind as they infiltrated social media with their black and white pictures to show solidarity for the women empowerment. Genevieve was one of the female celebrities that championed the movement.
However, a male colleague, Deyemi Okanlawon also took to social media to make a lighthearted post about the movement, posting a funny picture of him on a wig and captioned,
“awww #challengeaccepted…. We rise by lifting others! Thanks to all my style muses for NOT nominating me! ???…”
This didn’t sit very well with Genevieve and she responded with this,
“We seek solace in humor to distract us from pain and discomfort. Tell me what it is you feel exactly?
You see, that feeling that triggered you to make a joke of a movement that can only be understood by those it was meant for; the feeling of being overlooked and disregarded is part of the point of the challenge. No one likes to feel invisible, you felt it for a second. Women feel it evwryday of their lives. Let us hold our own hands if we want to. Be ok with it. Not evrything is about you or for laughs. Shalom ??️”
Evidently retracing his steps, Deyemi responded saying,
”While I know how much we need some laughter in these times I still feel the responsibility to find ways to bring to light the causes dear to my heart and that I am very passionate about – equal rights and the true empowerment of women. Special thanks to all the men who are committed to same,”
