Gender-Based Violence, GBV sensitisation will be taken to another height as the African Centre for Leadership, Strategy and Development, Centre-LSD, will engage stakeholders through policy dialogue to assess community awareness levels.
Also, through research validation on all Forms and Prevalence of Gender-Based Violence in the Extractive Sector, the Centre would commence activities in Taraba State.
The dialogue is being implemented under the Centre LSD BUILD Grant with relevant stakeholders in the extractive sector, including; host communities representatives, miners and government officials in Taraba state.
A statement by Ms Victoria Ose Ikearu-Udoh, Programme Co-ordinator of the Centre, the state-level policy dialogue stands as the 3rd and final edition in the series of discussions under the BUILD grant.
Earlier Gender-Based Violence Sensitisation in Ekiti, Ebonyi States
The first and second were held in Ebonyi and Ekiti State, respectively. According to her, the dialogue like the ones contained in the states mentioned earlier served dual purposes, including as a forum for validation of the research, particularly in Taraba state, and will also be used to stimulate discussions and chart a way forward resolving the challenges.
According to the release, the policy dialogue will herald the capacity building of representatives of Mining Host Communities & Artisanal Miners in the state also coming within the week.
