Fortune telling which is the practice of predicting information about a person’s life is as old as human life itself. This is almost the same as divination with the difference being that the latter is considered part of a religious ritual or occult practices. You must have heard one or two people telling you about your fortune in life. It’s easy to say whatever comes out of it depends on you.
Fortune Telling is A Tale of Life
Nicholas, a young man in his late twenties is known to be very bright and enterprising. Although he has a very poor background, he doesn’t allow that to take his back to the ground. He strives hard to get the best out of life.
He was studious and intelligent. This made him to be a delight for his friends and colleagues. One of his colleagues once predicted, because of his lifestyle, and said to him ‘’Nicholas, you are destined to be great in life’’. Although this was the umpteenth time he was told about his greatness, it still feels like it is new.
Years later, the young man now in his late thirties, is yet to achieve anything meaningful in life rather than living. Despite trying all his best to make things work, he couldn’t get a good job neither could he get funds to run his ideas: life has really played a big one on him.
Fortune telling is much of a discussion here. Although he still strives for greatness, when it will come through is one of the things his soul longs for. Perhaps, one day his call would be picked by a supreme being, haha, then the greatness will come to reality as expected.
Fortune Telling and the Realities of Life
The case of Nicholas is a fair one when discussing the aftermath of fortune telling. Many have gone to sleep because they’ve heard positive information about their life. They are relaxed because the fortune teller whom they thought hear from the supreme being (God) have shown them their life will be like a bed of roses; no wonder they are sleeping on such floral beds. Lol!
The story of two men comes to mind in this case of fortune telling. These men who met a fortune teller were told how their lives will pan out. One is to become wealthy while the other poor. The one that was told he will be wealthy was happy and went home waiting for the day he would have the billions on his bed. The other man, aggrieved, went to a distant land. There, he planted food for him to survive.
A famine then happened in the land, it was at this period he became the last hope of survival for the people. They bought the produce from the land he cultivated and this made him rich while the other man sleeping couldn’t afford to buy because of his abject poverty.
Many, because of what they have been told about their lives by men like them have found life treating them badly. They have forgotten everyone is destined for greatness. It is work that will make you not predictions.
Some have even gone as far as visiting diviners to know what the future holds for them. I won’t argue that getting information about one’s life is totally bad but what me make of it after we are told is the main issue.
It’s even better if we know what we’ll do to prosper and follow that path than getting prophecies from men that will fail. In this part of the world, some who has visited fortune tellers or diviners have seen their fortune short-changed. Their stars have been turned to mere Christmas lights that lasts for just the festive periods.
In conclusion, we must not rely on fortune tellers or prophecies to live our lives. In a religious society like ours, people must be informed that they have to work to make things happen. We just have to keep our heads up no matter what without excluding the God factor.
