Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, in a recent event, has lost an orchard farm that was reportedly raised down with fire set by some hoodlums in Benue State.

The tragic incident occurred within Howe community in Gwer East Local Government Area, LGA of the state, as the manager of the property, Zubello Muhamed, confirmed the incident to the public.

He said that the hoodlums set the cultivation grounds ablaze during the weekend just after he left the farming environment for an official assignment.

However, some of the inhabitants stated that the inferno commenced after witnessing disagreements with the locals over compensation for the piece of land that originally belonged to the state government.

Seconding this view, the Gwer East Local Government Chairman, Mr Emmanuel Ortsega, stressed that the action came as an intentional move from the hoodlums that failed to listen to reasoning.

Mr Emmanuel Ortsega said that “The fire on the farm was started at about 2 pm on Saturday by hoodlums and nearly half of it is gone. It was clearly sabotaged.”
