France Ligue 1 top giant Marseille and Paris St-Germain clashed over the weekend, and football fans invaded the stadium to stop the game. The two teams played out a goalless draw in an eventful game that had both teams gaols disallowed after VAR checks.
The game had several big VAR decisions as play was held up several times for football fans entering the field to disrupt play. In both halves of the game, the referee had to stop the as home fans threw bottles at Neymar as he tried to take a corner. On both occasions, security staff used plastic shields to block the missiles while the corner was taken.
A pitch invader also ran onto the pitch and put his hands on Lionel Messi’s back in the second half. The game in which Lionel Messi would have continued his impressive form, which he started in the Champions League, was spoilt by the football fans who constantly invaded the pitch.
They also had PSG right-back Achraf Hakimi sent off for a professional foul on Cengiz Under. While the referee consulted with the VAR team on that red card decision, a laser shone into his face. A Luan Peres own goal from Neymar’s cross and Arkadiusz Milik’s strike for Marseille in the first half were both ruled out by the VAR for offside.
Parsi Saint-Germain is still unbeaten in 11 league games this season, and they are seven points clear of Lens at the top. The fans threw the bottle at Neymar because the last time the Brazilian played against Marseille he received a red card for insulting a player.
