Fight against Gender Based Violence Takes New Turn

Share

In the fight against Gender Based Violence, the Side by Side movement for Gender justice in Nigeria joins the rest of the world to celebrate 16 Days of Activism.

The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is an annual international campaign that kicks off on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and runs until 10 December, Human Rights Day.

The campaign is a strategy by individuals and organizations around the world to call for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls.

Violence against women and girls remains the most pervasive human rights violation around the world. Already heightened by the COVID-19 pandemic, its prevalence is now being further exacerbated by the intersecting crises of global conflicts, economic instability, and climate change.

The 2022 Campaign theme “UNITE! Activism to end violence against women and girls” is an invitation calling on everyone to play their role in ending violence against women and girls, show support and solidarity to women’s rights activists and resist the rollback on women’s rights.

The Side-by-Side movement in Nigeria is proud to participate in drawing attention towards bringing an end to the scourge of gender-based violence.

This 16 Days, the movement is encouraging everyone to get involved: from amplifying the voices, to supporting women’s organizations to end violence against women and girls.

“We can all act to reduce and prevent violence against women and girls and protect women’s rights.” The statement read.

The Movement for gender justice thus enjoins citizens to say no and resist Gender-based Violence in any form everywhere and anytime.
