The Federal Government of Nigeria has threatened to drag Ghana before the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS Court.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, who revealed this noted that the move is to seek a lasting solution to the continuous attack on Nigerian traders in Ghana.

While playing host to representatives of the Nigerian traders in Ghana under the Progressive Ambassadors of Nigeria (PAN), Onyeama said the Nigerian government had proactively swung into action to address the situation within the shortest time possible.

According to the Minister, one of the measures for a concrete solution was to get in touch with ECOWAS to know its perspective on the situation.

He added that the measure would also reveal if the Ghanaian retail code was in contravention to ECOWAS protocols.

However, he reiterated the importance of getting all the facts of the situation before the Nigerian government could act and engage with the Ghanaian authorities.

Onyeama told the Nigerian traders in Ghana that the Minister of Trade would engage his Ghanaian counterpart adding that the Federal government has summoned the Ghanaian High Commissioner.

He opined that Nigeria had created an enabling environment for Ghanaians to operate in Nigeria and expect Ghana to reciprocate that gesture as he also assured Nigerian traders in Ghana that the matter would be addressed in the shortest times possible.

Reacting, President of PAN Mr Jasper Emenike, who spoke on behalf of the Nigerian traders in Ghana, called on the Nigerian government to urgently look into the burning tensions.
