The Federal government of Nigeria has set up a committee to tackle rape and sexual violence issues presently trending in the country after several reports of cases have surfaced in recent times.
The Attorney General of the Federation, Mr Abubakar Malami made the inauguration of the Gender-Based Violence Committee by the president known in a statement shown to news reporters in the country on Thursday, condemning the recent upsurge of rape and sexual assault cases in the country.
Mr. Abubakar Malami announced the immediate inauguration of the committee to tackle rape after the development of the issue of rape and murder of victims had received outrage from Nigerians and the international community.
This decision comes after it was reported that the Nigerian Governors Forum had taken the decision of tougher treatments of people convicted of rape in the country.
