FG Raises Alarm Over Fake COVID-19 Vaccines

The Federal Government has issued a strong warning to Nigerians about the circulation of fake COVID-19 vaccines.

Mr Boss Mustapha, the Charman Presidential Taskforce PTF on COVID-19, gave the warning during Monday briefing of the PTF on COVID-19.

Mustapha added that Nigeria is set to receive four million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine as part of efforts to stem the wave of the pandemic.

However, the PTF Boss stressed the need to continue to take responsibility by observing all the non-pharmaceutical measures.

Fake COVID-19 Vaccines

The National Agency for Food Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, had earlier approved AstraZeneca vaccines in Nigeria.

Everyevery.ng reported that NAFDAC recently approved Oxford/AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine in Nigeria.

The Director-General of NAFDAC, Professor Mojisola Adeyeye, who disclosed this during a Press Conference, said the agency got the vaccine’s dossier about two weeks ago.

According to Adeyeye, the NAFDAC safety committee immediately evaluated Nigerians’ safety and efficacy.

The NAFDAC boss said AstraZeneca COVID-19 Vaccine‘s evaluation shows that it is effective against the UK COVID-19 variant reported in Nigeria.

On his part, the Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, said the Federal government is aware of official reports of large scale fraud and counterfeit COVID-19 vaccines that are already in circulation.
