Barely 24 hours after the update given by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, the Federal Government has again announced the extension of the deadline for the National Identity Numbers, NIN.
According to the National Identity Management Commission, NIMC, the federal government extended the deadline to link NIN with Sim Cards by one month.
The Spokesman for NIMC, Kayode Adegoke, noted that the participants at the Ministerial Task Force meeting on NIN-SIM data linkage agreed to extend the process from April 6, 2021, to May 6 2021.
Adegoke noted that the NIMC had assigned NINs to over 51 million people, adding that the current number of monthly enrollments had increased to about 2.6 million registrations.
Everyevery.ng gathered that critical stakeholders, including the NIMC, Nigerian Communications Commission, National Information Technology Development Agency attended the meeting.
Others include the EFCC, Nigeria Immigration Service, the Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria, managing directors of MTN, Airtel and the chief operating officer of Glo.
Earlier, Pantami had revealed that the NIMC had launched the NIMC APP and the improved National Identification Number Slip for Public use.
According to Pantami, the NIMC App offers a secure channel for Nigerians and Legal residents to verify and authenticate their identities using their smartphones.
He added that the App offers a built-in harmonisation process that allows for its use across other government services, including FIRS, FRSC, NHIS, NPF, and NCC, among others.
