FG Explains How Chinese Visa Restrictions Affect Nigerians

The Federal Government has explained the rationale behind how China temporarily suspended entry into the country by non-Chinese nationals in Nigeria.

This was contained in a statement issued by Ferdinand Nwonye, the Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,

Nwoye said the Minister of Foreign affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama held a meeting with the Charge D’ Affairs of the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria, Mr Zhao Yong.

It was gathered that Yong clarified how the new Chinese visa restrictions affect Nigerians.

The Chinese Ambassador said China has decided to suspend entry into the country by non-Chinese in Nigeria holding valid visas or residence permits from November 3rd, 2020.

However, Yong noted that the suspension of entry is due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

He further explained that the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria will no longer issue a Certified Health Declaration Form for the affected Nationals.

Meanwhile, Yong revealed that entry by holders of Diplomatic, service, courtesy of C Visas issued for foreign crew members will not be affected.

He added that foreign nationals visiting China for emergency needs may apply for a visa at the Chinese Embassy or Consulate.

Yong, however, disclosed that the suspension is a temporary response was necessitated by the current situation of COVID-19.
