FCT checks Corona Virus
As countries around the world battle the recently discovered disease which originated from Wuhan, China, the World Health Organisation WHO has listed FCT, and eight states with a high risk of coronavirus outbreak in Nigeria.
The international organization said these states must be at alert against an outbreak of the deadly disease, which has killed many in China.
According to WHO, the assessment probably took the direction because of the frequent travels between Nigerians and the Chinese.
The states mapped out by the WHO are Lagos, Kano, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Port Harcourt, Enugu, Delta, Fct, and Bayelsa.
While speaking at a media training for reporters on coronavirus outbreak, the technical officer on health emergency programme for WHO, Dhamari Naidoo said Nigeria was self-assessed as high in a risk assessment by the organisation.
Naidoo stated that the WHO was working on strengthening surveillance at ports of entry by supporting temperature screening and visual observation.
She further noted that airlines have also been informed about travel forms to enable the monitoring of travelers coming in from China.
The WHO technical office added that the organisation has deployed a surge team comprising of experts from the African region to support the work of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and the Federal Ministry of Health.
She said the team will also help in planning and preparing the country against the coronavirus outbreak.
it would be recalled that Osagie Ehanire, the minister of health has assured Nigerians that the health ministry in collaboration with the Lagos state government is well ready to contain the novel coronavirus if eventually the disease eventually breaks out in Nigeria.
