A father is many things
He’s a poet
he spins songs, sonnets, psalms
of joy, of love, of sorrow, of pain, of life,
saying listen, listen, youngheart,
I’ll be the fourth man in the fire with you.
He’s a prophet
he sees the seed in the tree, and the trees in the seed
he traces the lines in the palm of your hands
and points to the sun
saying child, child,
this is how bright your life will be.
He’s a soldier
With no weapons he stages a coup on darkness and all ills
he marches into the wilderness, a one man force,
Praying with his heart, mouth and feet,
Not afraid to face God or the devil.
He’s a magician
With the remedy for everything up his sleeve,
He takes a house, whether a mansion or a shack by the river and turns it into a home.
A Father is many things
If you want to learn HARD WORK,
Go watch the ants.
If you want to learn LOVE,
Go watch the doves,
If you want to learn BRAVERY,
Go watch the dogs
If you want to learn all three at once,
Go watch a FATHER.
