Manchester United’s Champions League qualification gets more and more difficult as all the teams’ are now levelled on points except Istanbul Basaksehir. They lost at home to Paris St-Germain when 3-1 last night. Manchester United did everything right except for converting their chances and making substitution when necessary.
Former Barcelona Brazilian forward opened the scoring just five minutes into the game but Marcus Rashford cancelled the Brazilian’s early opener with his third goal in four games against the French outfit. Another Brazilian (Marquinos) doubled restored wining for the away team with an excellent second-half finish put the visitors back in front.
Things became worst for Manchester United as Fred received a second yellow card and was shown a red card. Neymar tapped home his 38th Champions League goal to make the scores 3-1. All Manchester United fans have blamed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for his failure to remove Fred who was already on a yellow card from the first half of the game when the likes of Matic, Paul Pogba and Van de Beek were all in the bench.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also failed to pull out Anthony Martial who has not been in form since his straight red card against Tottenham which resulted to a heavy 6-1 lose to Tottenham. Last night’s result leaves United level with PSG and RB Leipzig on nine points in Group H and knowing they need at least a draw against the German side next Tuesday to progress to the last 16.
United had a couple of chances but Martial wasted them all, the French man was presented with an open goal in the early stage of the second half but he could not do anything useful with it. Edinson Cavani made a very delicate chip which came back off the crossbar with Bruno laying it for him but still he blasts it into Marquinos.
Manchester United was punished for not using their chance as the France champions made use of the chances they had. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is now under pressure as fans are pushing for his sack.
