The suspended super cop and Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, is in yet another scandal amidst reports linking him to suspected internet fraudster, Abass Ramon, also known as Hushpuppi.

According to Sahara Reporters, Kyari allegedly extorted 1 million naira each from seven suspected IPOB members through the Inspector-General of Police’sPolice’s Intelligence Response Team.

EveryEvery.ng gathered that the seven suspects were among over the fifty persons arrested during various raids in the South-East between March and June 2021.

The IGP’s team led by Abba Kyari reportedly whisked the IPOB members away to Abuja and detained them at the former Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad headquarters, Abuja, known as Abattoir.

One of the lawyers handling the cases of the arrested IPOB members said the police team under Kyari extorted between N1 million and N1.5 million each. However, the lawyer said those who could not afford the bribes remained in cells.

Also, the Kyari led IRT allegedly coordinated the mass arrests of South-East residents, whom they tagged IPOB members.

EveryEvery.ng had reported that the Police Service Commission hinted at the possibilities of sacking Kyari. Austin Braimoh, the spokesperson for the Commission, disclosed the punishment police officers could face if found guilty of wrongdoings.

According to Braimoh, an outright dismissal is one of the penalties that the police authorities could impose on Kyari if he is found guilty of the allegations against him.

Braimoh added that the punishment for police officers who have committed infractions includes a warning, reprimand, severe reprimand, reduction in rank, and outright dismissal.

Meanwhile, he noted that it would be wrong to conclude that DCP Abba Kyari is guilty of allegations against him without a thorough investigation.

He opined that Kyari’s indictment by the US court needs to be subjected to the Nigerian laws first to verify if the police officer is guilty of the allegations against him.
