Explosion In Kogi: Senate President Calls For Road Safety

The Senate President, Senator Ahmad Lawan has described the need to improve road safety in Nigeria as an urgent challenge for the relevant authorities and other stakeholders in the country’s transport sector.

Lawan, who highlighted the need to put an end to the rampant carnage on the roads bared his mind in a statement he issued on Thursday to condole the government and people of Kogi State over the tanker explosion incident which happened on Wednesday, September 23.

However, he extended his prayers to the families of victims of the disastrous explosion of a fuel tanker on the federal highway in Lokoja, the Kogi state capital.

Everyevery.ng reported that the explosion led to the loss of more than a score of people, including schoolchildren. Earlier, the Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello reacted to the Tanker explosion that resulted in the death of about 25 persons in the Felele area of Lokoja.

In the statement signed by his spokesperson, Onogwu Muhammed, governor Bello urged the students of Kogi State Polytechnic to remain calm and peaceful, stating that he shared in their grieving moment over the death of some of their colleagues in the disaster.
