Ex-Super Eagles star John Utaka has been appointed as his former club’s coach which is Montpellier in France, the player returned to kick start his career as a football coach with the club. the ex-Super Eagles attacker played for the Montpellier in France from 2011 to 2013 where he scored 12 goals in his 68 appearances in all competitions.

The 38-year-old has now returned to Stade de la Mosson with the ambition of earning his coaching badge in the Ligue 1 club’s youth set-up. Ahead of his new sojourn, the Nigeria national team sent a congratulatory message to him. According to the message to the ex-Super Eagles Star, it reads: “And the journey in coaching begins for John Utaka, the attacker with the Montpellier youth coach post. All the best poacher,” the Super Eagles official account wrote.

The former Portsmouth player is not the first to be given a coaching appointment, former Everton and Norwich captain Joseph Yobo who also captained the Nigerian national team was also given a coaching job. Joseph Yobo was recently appointed as the assistant Super Eagles coach, the former Super Eagles defender was given the job early this year before the global lock-down due to coronavirus outbreak. John Utaka and Joseph Yobo are presently the most recent ex-super Eagles stars to be given coaching jobs after their retirement.
