Spain endured a frustrating opening game in Euro 2020 as they were held down to a goalless draw by Sweden. They had everything right apart from scoring which is the most important. Spain dominated the whole game but Sweden was rigid and stubborn and so they could not find a win in their Seville stadium.
Euro 2020: Spain vs Sweden 0-0
Spain did all the playing, it even looked like a session of attack versus defence. Sweden had a very good plan obviously which later worked out for them. All the good opportunities the Spanish had through their build-up yielded nothing at the end of the day.
The likes of Alvaro Morata, Dani Olmo had chances but were not able to convert them to goal. They both had a close-range effort but it did not lead to a goal. Swedish goalkeeper Robin Olsen was able to save all the ball directed to him.
Sweden had only one clear chance which fell to La Liga’s young player of the year Alexander Isak, who managed his way past the Spanish defenders but the ball hit the post and looped straight to grateful keeper Unai Simon. The result means the two teams have thesame points and in the second and third place respectively in Group E.
Spain had one of their key player Sergio Busquests out of the game due to coronavirus which could have been on the reasons why they were struggling to get a goal, on the other Sweden had their superhero Zlatan Ibrahimovich injured and dropped from the competition.
