Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice in their opening game Group F game as his side beat Hungary 3-0. Portugal’s win means they are currently topping Group F. The group is side to be the group of death they have France, Germany, Portugal and Hungary.
Cristiano Ronaldo Scores Brace to Help Portugal Beat Hungary
Cristiano Ronaldo has now hit the record of the highest goal scorer in European Championship history. The former Manchester United and Real Madrid player is the first player to appear at five different European Championships. He has now scored 11 goals at the tournament, beating the previous nine set by France’s Michel Platini.
Portugal played goalless in the first half of the game but came back strong in the second half. Raphael Guerreiro’s deflected shot gave Portugal the lead before Ronaldo smashed home a penalty three minutes later. He soon scored his brace in the stoppage time.
Portugal is currently topping the table on goal difference. They will face former world champions Germany in their next game to extend their win to two while France will play Hungary.
