Following the 4-0 thrashing of Manchester United by Brentford United head coach Erik ten Hag has come out to say the players are to take responsibility for their poor performance.
The manager said he however feel very sorry for the fans. The four goals were scored in the space of 35 minutes and they all came in the first half of the game.
Josh Dasilva put the hosts ahead when his strike from distance and David De Gea could not save the ball. Mathias Jensen then doubled the lead after dispossessing former Brentford player Christian Eriksen, with Ben Mee and Bryan Mbeumo goals putting Thomas Frank’s side four goals up during an incredible first half in which they stunningly dismantled United.
The defeat is Manchester United’s seventh in a row on the road – their worst run since 1936 while it is the seventh time they have conceded at least four goals in a league game since the start of last season.
While Brentford can bask in a historic win, United boss Erik ten Hag faces the unenviable task of lifting his players in time for the visit of Liverpool to Old Trafford on Monday.
After the match Erik ten Hag made it clear that it is the player’s responsibility as he has done his part in the dressing room. He also said he feels very sorry for the fans. The fans have already concluded that the owners of the club, the Glezer family should sell the club as their interest is not for the success of the club again.
They also plan that they will not attend the Manchester United game against Liverpool which comes up on Monday. They call it the Empty Old Trafford protest.
