English Premier League (EPL) clubs have been ordered that they stand a chance to repay an estimated £340m to domestic and international broadcasters if the league resume and is played behind closed doors.

Through the Project Restart, club officials met on Monday to continue talks on resuming the league and some club managers stood against the neutral venues option to complete the league. One other thing which was discussed in the meeting was how to repay broadcasters that has paid long before the whole coronavirus pandemic.

Refunds is anticipated as matches are not taking place as expected and since games will played behind closed doors it is expected that the English Premier League (EPL) make refunds. The English Premier League (EPL) clubs are due to earn a total of £9.2billion from broadcasters for the 2019-22 cycle.

English Premier League (EPL) chief executive Richard Masters had previously predicted a loss of “at least £1bn” if the 2019-20 season is not complete. Richard said: “We were able to update our clubs today on our situation with broadcasters, which is obviously confidential.”

“Whatever happens, there’s going to be significant loss of revenue for clubs. That is inevitable.” “We were able to paint a picture today about what would happen in various scenarios, playing out the season and not playing out the season, to allow them to have a picture of that as we stand in the early part of May. “But in terms of putting an estimate on it, I don’t want to do that today,” he concluded.

The English Premier League (EPL) is now expected to pay refunds which amount to £340m to international broadcasters. The English Premier League (EPL) is looking to resume on the 1st of June to complete the season although some players are not in agreement with the move.
