Enugu Tops Health Workers’ April Salary with 25%

Enugu state government has added 25 per cent of its health workers‘ basic salary as hazard allowance as it pays its workforce earlier than usual.

According to a statement signed by Secretary to the State Government, Simon Ortuaya, the move was to help in encouraging those at the fore of the fight against the Coronavirus pandemic.

He stressed that the 25 per cent addition was earlier agreed upon by the State Executive Council as an incentive to the health workers risking their lives to safe those of others amidst the Coronavirus scourge.

It would be recalled that about forty medical practitioners currently actively involved in service deliveries have been said to have tested positive for the virus in Nigeria.

This is coming when stakeholders across Nigeria have called on governments at all levels to ensure that health workers are paid hazard allowance as a way of appreciating and encouraging them at such a time as this.
