#EndBadGovernance Protests to Continue in Lagos Despite Presidential Address

Share

The #EndBadGovernance protests in Lagos are set to resume today, August 5, 2024, despite a presidential address aimed at addressing the demonstrators’ grievances.

The decision to continue the protests was announced by the organizers, who expressed disappointment with the timing of President Bola Tinubu’s speech, which came three days after the demonstrations began.

While Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had praised the protesters for heeding the call to end their demonstrations following the presidential address, the organizers maintained that the struggle is far from over. In a statement, they emphasized that the President’s speech was a result of their sustained pressure and that the government cannot be trusted to fulfill its promises.

The group has called on Nigerians to reconvene at Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park in Ojota at 7 a.m. for the fifth day of protests.

The unexpected continuation of the protests comes as a setback for the government, which had hoped to de-escalate the situation through the presidential address.
