Former Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur Nigerian Togolese striker Emmanuel Adebayor has landed himself a half million-pound payday after Fifa ruled the striker’s club had sacked him unfairly. Emmanuel Adebayor was given a £420,000 payday following an unjust sacking he received from his club. He made just four appearances for the Asuncion outfit before Covid-19 halted their season.
He then failed to return from his home country Togo amid travel restrictions. The club side Olimpia tore his one-year contract papers this happened in June 2020, and the 38-year-old has not played since then. Fifa’s football tribunal has now ordered Olimpia to pay Adebayor 510,000 dollars (£420,000), plus 12 per cent interest backdated to 2020.
The club’s president Miguel Cardona said: “There’s nothing we can do about contracts that were previously signed.” ”But the club will change its policy on salaries, and impose a pay cap.” He also said” “We had a demand for payment from Adebayor. We knew he was on 200,000 dollars a month.” Adebayor hit 62 Arsenal goals in 142 games following his 2006 arrival from Monaco.”
He joined Manchester City in 2009 and had a loan spell with Spanish top side Real Madrid before a four-season stay with Spurs. The 85-cap international went on to play for Crystal Palace, and Turkish sides Basaksehir and Kayserispor, before his ill-fated move to South America two years ago.
