Egypt Coach Resigns after Senegal Defeat

Following the disappointing exit of Egypt in the Qatar 2022 Fifa World Cup, Egypt head coach Carlos Queiroz has tendered his resignation as coach of the Egyptian national team. The country has failed to qualify for two World Cup tournaments in a row. The Pharaohs lost 3-1 on penalties to Senegal on Tuesday in the second leg of their playoff. The match had ended 1-0 after 120 minutes and 1-1 on aggregate.

The game was a repeat of the African Cup of Nations that finish about three weeks ago. The North Africans were defeated by Senegal on penalties in the final of the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon and they did the same again.

It would have been the Pharaoh’s fourth appearance at the World Cup but the failure to qualify has ended Queiroz’s time in charge of the Pharaohs team. He tweeted: “Dream is Over. From the bottom of my heart, my gratitude to Egypt the  Federation for this honor for coaching the National Team.”
