EFCC Warns Property Agents

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has warned property agents to stop acting as middlemen in the sale of properties by fraudsters.

Head, Economic Governance Section of the Kaduna Zonal Office, Sadiq Abubakar, issued the warning while during a Security Summit organized by the National Union of Land and Property Agents Association of Nigeria in Kaduna.

Sadiq advised land vendors to embrace the practice of carrying out Know-Your-Customer to protect themselves from dealing with fraudsters.

He called on the Association to always liaise with the relevant agencies to authenticate any property’s genuineness before transacting business on them. Sadiq further reminded members of the Association of their obligations under the Money Laundering Act.

Responding, the Chairman of the Association, Shafi’u Abubakar, thanked the anti-graft agency for satisfying their thirst for knowledge on carrying out their businesses lawfully.

Earlier, the Executive Chairman of the EFCC, Abdulrasheed Bawa, had visited the Sokoto Zonal Office, where he charged the staff to be disciplined and embrace professionalism.

While stressing integrity as one of the cardinal pillars on which the EFCC anchors it operations, Bawa warned that the Commission would not tolerate any act inimical to discipline.

However, the EFCC Boss assuaged the fears of staff regarding all pending internal issues. Furthermore, he urged staff to be more courageous in the execution of the Commission’s mandate.
