EFCC Warns Nigerians Over Sim Registration, NIN

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has warned against the sale and purchase of the National Identification Number, NIN as Nigerians make efforts to link NIN to their sim cards.

The EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, who gave the warning noted that some unscrupulous persons were inducing some applicants to sell their NIN for a fee.

According to Uwajaren, those buying the NIN were also trading with persons whose motives are anything but noble.

He advised Nigerians to be on alert adding that it is not only illegal to sell their NIN but also stand the risk of vicarious liability for any act of criminality linked to their NIN.

The Commission further urged Nigerians to report anyone seeking to buy the facility to the nearest office of the EFCC or other law enforcement agencies.

Earlier, the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC has clarified reports making the round on the purported massive disconnection of sim cards.

According to the Director, Public Affairs of the NCC, the reports about sim card disconnection are based on the erroneous assumption that for every network or SIM connection, there is one unique human subscriber (read more here).
