A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has denied the former Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, bail pending the determination of a suit he filed against the Federal Government.
On Tuesday, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) forcefully arrested 59-year-old presidential aspirant in his Abuja home after a siege of over 7 hours.
The Anti-graft agency found its way through the ceiling of Okorocha’s home after he had refused to open his door on his request for an arrest warrant.
The EFCC has since released a statement that Okorocha’s arrest was because he jumped bail of his N2.9billion embezzlement hearing.
On Friday, Justice Inyang Ekwo declined the bail request of the former governor after filing an ex-parte application because he is a presidential aspirant on the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC) and that his political ambition would be jeopardized unless granted bail.
Justice Ekwo ruled that Okorocha should put the Federal Government on notice to come and defend his detention and declined him bail.
