The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC boss, Ibrahim Magu has finally commented on the reported arrest of popular Nigerian Instagram celebrity, Ramon Abbas largely known as Hushpuppi.

Hushpuppi was reportedly arrested by men of the international police, Interpol and FBI in Dubai on the Tuesday 9th June for alleged fraudulent activities against the United States of America.

Reports suggest that the popular socialite had defrauded the US government by hacking into their unemployment database and scheming the sum of over one hundred million dollars that was meant for Americans in the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic.

The EFCC boss Ibrahim Magu on hearing reports that the accused Hushpuppi was being extradited to Nigeria said the commission had yet to be involved in the case, saying the EFCC is ready to take over the matters of the case should it be handed over to them.

EFCC boss Magu also stressed his displeasure at the menace caused by the internet fraudsters, seeking rehabilitation for most of them after they see the errors of their ways.

He said, “We are not all about arresting, prosecuting and chasing internet fraudsters, and taking away the proceeds of their crime, but we are also trying to see whether we can rehabilitate them. Because most of these boys are either undergraduate or graduate from higher institutions so that they can be better people to our country. The menace of Yahoo boys is also a course of concern, we are collaborating with other law enforcement agencies.”

The EFCC Boss Lamented on the support the “yahoo boys” receive from their mothers, claiming they have an association called “yahoo yahoo mothers association” where the mothers of these fraudsters actively support the acts of their children, assisting them when they can in their numerous credit card schemes.
