EFCC Arrests Instagram Influencer, 4 Others for Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has announced the arrest of a popular social media influencer on Instagram and Twitter for fraud-related activities along with four others.

The EFCC arrest was made known to the public on Tuesday evening, with the EFCC announcing the arrest in a tweet released on their official twitter handle.

The agency said they arrested five alleged internet fraudsters with the popular social media influencer, Adedamola Adewale who is known on Instagram and twitter as @adeherself among them. Adewale was arrested with an accomplice by the name Lamina Hamzat Ajibola at Agungi area of Lekki in Lagos state.

The arrest of Adewale and Ajibola was carried out after investigations from credible intelligence had linked them to internet fraud in partnership with two brothers, Lasisi Wasiu Adeleke and Lasisi Riliwan Adeniyi. The brothers own the four-bedroom duplex where they Ademola and Ajibola were caught, but they are still on the run.

On interrogation by the EFCC, Adewale confessed to being a picker in cybercrimes. Items recovered from them include the sum of nine million Naira (NGN9,000,000) that was found in her account along with 2 Toyota camry 2009 model with them.

The other three that were arrested are Israel Onyebuchi, Emmanuel Olayode and Valentine Nwokorie. They were arrested around the Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos state.

They were arrested by the EFCC for their part in a romance scam after another investigation was carried out following more credible investigation. The investigation revealed that Nwokorie was impersonating a female American and was sending photos as a porn star in the bid to defraud his unsuspecting victims, and his counterpart Onyebuchi was involved in a love scam and foreign cheque forgery.

The EFCC recovered Laptops and mobile phones from the trio. They are all set to be arraigned in court after all investigations are concluded.
