Edo Commissioner For Information Resigns

Another cabinet member of the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki has resigned.

The Commissioner for Information and Orientatatation in the state, Mr Paul Ohonbamu, tendered his resignation letter on Thursday, June 4.

In the letter of resignation addressed to Obaseki, the former Commissioner said he decided to step aside as Obaseki’s cabinet member without setting a precedent.

According to the letter, Ohonbamu noted that the decision would allow him to operate outside for the good of the state.

The former Commissioner for Information and Orientatatation in Edo state, Mr Paul Ohonbamu who tendered his resignition letter on Thursday, June 4.

He, however, expressed gratitude to Obaseki for the opportunity given to him to serve the state.

Meanwhile, Ohonbamu, who confirmed his resignation has declined to make further comment as to his reason for deciding to resign.

You will recall that the Chief of Staff to Governor Obaseki, Mr Taiwo Akerele had in May resigned his appointment stating administrative reasons.

With the latest resignation, it means two members of Obaseki’s cabinet have resigned within the last one month.

You will recall that Obaseki had on Monday, June 1 met President Muhammadu Buhari to intimate him on his intention to seek re-election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Meanwhile, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP had on Thursday approved the nomination of some members of the party to screen all interested aspirants ahead of the Governorship election in Edo state.

In a statement signed by the National Organizing Secretary of the PDP, Austine Akobundu, the National Working Committee of the party constituted the screening committee ahead of the governorship primaries of the party in Edo.

According to the statement, Kingsley Chinda will work as the Chairman of the screening committee.

Other members are Chief Oladimeji Fabiyi, Senator Mrs Joy Emordi, Hajiya Aishat Hasindu and Honourable Boyele Debekeme as the Secretary of the committee.

The screening exercise is scheduled to hold at the NWC Hall, WadataPlaza, Abuja on Friday, June 5.
