Ed Woodward was attacked recently following the failure of the club to secure a good deal in the ongoing transfer window. United budgeted on signing a couple of players in the January transfer window but till now no player has been signed by the club. The Red Devils side wanted to sign Champions League wonder kid Erling Braut Haland but never came through.
A video posted on social media showed somebody throwing a red flare over a large gate, while others sang songs aimed at the 48-year-old. The chants were directed to the man and they were saying “woodward you are gonna die”. The man was not present as at the time of the incident.
Manchester United have already come out to sound it clear to the general public saying “anyone committing a criminal offence or trespassing will be banned for life.”
The club statement added that: “Fans expressing opinion is one thing, criminal damage and intent to endanger life is another. There is simply no excuse for this. “We know that the football world will unite behind us as we work with police to identify the perpetrators of this unwarranted attack.”
Cheshire police confirmed they received a call about “an incident of criminal damage” on Tuesday evening involving “a large group”. A statement continued: “Thankfully no-one was harmed, and officers will liaise with security officials over the coming days to establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident and identify those involved.”
Ed Woodward Must Go
Ed Woodward has been on the black list of the United fans after the failed attempt to get a quality player for the team. Ed Woodward has been accused by the fans of failing to bring out finance to sign good players. With Marcus Rashford out due to injury it seems United have no hope of getting the Champions League ticket.
Manchester United sit fifth in the Premier League with 33 points behind leaders Liverpool and Woodward has been the target of blame by many fans. Fans has labeled him “a specialist in failure” the failure to land Portuguese star Bruno Fernandez has added to the hate for Ed Woodward.
Manchester United have not really been consistent in the league this season and it is pointed at the fact that most of the players are down with Injury. The quest and desire for new players is something that the fans are all clamoring for. Failure to sign new player then, Ed Woodward must go, according the fans.
United lost to Burnley recently in the legendary Old Trafford something which has not happened in a long time. Fans are on the opinion that Ed Woodward should be dropped as his management style is killing the team. United’s last FA Cup game against Tranmere, supporters were seen singing songs about Woodward and made repeated calls for the club’s owners, the Glazer family, to leave the club.
The incident is reminiscent of another attack, in 2004, on the car of then club director Maurice Watkins, whose shares ended up being bought by Malcolm Glazer as his bid for the club gathered pace.
Manchester United will play a local derby against rivals Manchester City in the Carabao Cup semi-finals second leg. Fans has threatened to worked out of the stadium in the EPL home game which will be against Wolverhampton. The only way to stop this movement outside the removal of Ed Woodward will be the signing of Bruno Fernandez.
