Economic Community of West African States has distanced itself from news making the rounds that it had endorsed and ordered Madagascar tonic.
The ECOWAS said it could only support and endorse products that have scientific proof of an effective cure despite several claims of a Covid-19 treatment in different parts of the world.
The organization further disclosed that there is a collaboration between the West Africa Health Organization (WAHO) and other relevant partners like the World Health Organisation, WHO.
Others are Africa Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, national and international research agencies.
According to ECOWAS, other bodies that are investigating products of potential efficacy includes the traditional medicine centres of excellence in the region.
The organization stressed that it would continue to focus on delivering on the decisions made by its Heads of State and Government at their recent Extraordinary Summit on the fight against Covid-19.
One of the decision is to strengthen cooperation among member states in research, training and experience sharing in health matters in general, and the fight against Covid-19 in particular.
You will recall that Malagasy President, Andry Rajoelina had last month officially launched the CVO, a herbal mixture developed by the Malagasy Institute of Applied Research for the treatment and prevention of Coronavirus.
