Drake Withdraws From 64th Grammy Awards

The Canadian rapper Aubrey Graham, popularly known as Drake, has withdrawn his nominations from the 64th Grammy Awards in 2022.

The 35-year-old rapper has earlier been nominated in two categories of the awards’ Best Rap Performance’ for his song ‘Way 2 Sexy’ and ‘Best Rap Album’ for ‘Certified Lover Boy’.

At the time of reporting, the main reason for his withdrawal could not be ascertained as he has yet to react to the withdrawal.

The withdrawal was a request made by the rapper’s management, which the Academy obliged.
Drake has been a significant critic of the awards and their nomination process, which is said to be through a nominating committee.

Drake Withdraws Grammy Nominations

The rapper lately criticized the Academy in the 2021 award nomination after ‘The Weeknd’ was not nominated for any category despite supposedly having the most famous work during the year.

Last year, Drake reacted on his Instagram page, saying he is no longer shocked by the disconnect between good music and the awards.

adding that we should “accept that what once was the highest form of recognition may no longer matter to the artist that exists now and the ones that come after.”

He likened the Award organizer to a relative you expect to change but would not change their ways.

His nomination withdrawal will leave just four nominees for each of the two categories he is withdrawing from.

The show will hold on January 31, 2022, at the crypto.com Arena, formerly Staples Center, Los Angeles.
