Drake Breaks Billboard Music Awards Record

Drake now has a total of 27 Billboard Awards to his name. He has broken the record for the number of Billboard Music Awards received by an artist, after picking up another 12 at yesterday’s event.

Drake, who walked into the awards with 17 nominations, also won top male artist and Billboard 200 album for Scorpion. “Shout-out to Arya Stark for putting in that work last week,” he said of the Game of Thrones star who shined in last week’s episode.

Drake thanked his mum for her relentless effort in his life during his acceptance speech. He said. “No matter how long it took me to figure out what I wanted to do, you were always there to give me a ride and now we’re all on one hell of a ride.”

Drake also won top male artist, top streaming songs artist, top rap artist and top Billboard 200 album for Scorpion as well as seven others.

Other winners on the night included Ariana Grande, who picked up the award for top female artist, BTS, who took home the top duo/group award, and Luke Combs, who won top country artist. Cardi B won 12 awards, including the top 100 song prize for Girls Like You with Maroon 5.

Taylor Swift kicked off the show when she brought her new music video to life with a colorful, eye-popping performance of her song ME.
