Dowen College has been trending in the news for over two weeks now following the death of a student, Sylvester Oromoni, allegedly killed by some bullies in the school.
The case has since taken another turn since the aggrieved parents of the deceased decided to engage the services of one of Nigeria’s most fierce and passionate human rights lawyers/activists.
Yesterday, the family of Sylvester Oromoni (Jnr), the late 12-year-old that attended DowenCollege before his tragic demise, hired the firm of a foremost human rights lawyer and activist, Femi Falana, to conduct the legal procedures regarding their son’s death.
In a letter written by the fiery lawyer to the office of the Lagos State Chief Coroner, he requested a moment of inquiry into the particular cause of death of the prospective young Sylvester.
December 6, 2021, was the date on the letter Taiwo Olawale signed and addressed to the chief coroner, High Court of Lagos State.
The letter was titled ‘Request for Inquest into the Tragic Death of Sylvester Oromoni killed at Dowen College, Lekki, Lagos.’
According to its content, it was based on the allegations put forward by the deceased parents claiming that their child died due to injuries sustained from inflicted pains on their son by his seniors.
The letter cited Section 15 of the Lagos State Coroner’s Law 2007, noting that an inquest can be conducted whenever a coroner is notified that someone’s death is caused by violence, unnatural or suspicious situation.
