Borussia Dortmund to sign Jude Bellingham from Birmingham City

Borussia Dortmund is close to completing the signing of Birmingham City’s teenage midfielder Jude Bellingham on a long-term contract. The 17-year-old In August last year broke the record of former England striker Trevor Francis as Birmingham’s youngest player when he made his first-team debut aged 16 years and 38 days.

He scored the winner against Stoke City on his home debut in the English Championship, reports are that the transfer to Dortmund is yet to be completed. But the German is however close to signing the player who has been a major target for Manchester United. Dortmund is willing to pay £20m for the 17-year-old Bellingham star.

Bellingham has been one of the most sought-after young players in Europe this summer. Manchester United was keen to sign him and even offered him a tour of their training ground and an introduction to Sir Alex Ferguson. But Dortmund felt they had an equally persuasive argument given their development of young players.

Should the move push through, Jadon Sancho who is also a major target for Manchester United could join the English Premier League side. If Bellingham’s deal pulls through before the week runs out, he will be the second player to move from England to German after Leroy Sane who signed for Bayern Munich.
