Decisions taken in the music industry are crucial to the growth or downfall of an artist which is why Don Jazzy’s opinion revealed during his latest interview came as a big shock to the public. He spoke about the secrets of algorithms and traffic and how it affects the success of an artist.
During his interview, he acknowledged the exceptionality of Buju as an artist, but according to him, getting success as an artist sometimes does not depend on vocal or lyrical capacity.
He emphasised the need to release catchy songs people can vibe to and this is where Portable as an example came in. He reveals that he uses his song, Zazu to set an example to the artists signed under him.
Portable gained so much media attention because of that song, the relevance of the lyrics was not called to question because it was something everyone vibed to, therefore he had the favours of the algorithm.
Don Jazzy exposes he usually tells his artists to think along this line, if they decided to be reserved thinking a good voice would do the magic trick, then they would be at the bottom of the industry. While Buju might be very good, he was not used as an example because Portable appears better at drawing attention to himself.
